Biogenic Minerals’ harvesting area – licensed
for 35 years – is in Húnaflói. A calm, cold, and
beautiful area located at the north coast
of Iceland, with very little marine traffic.
Harvesting is carried out through small local
boats to ensure precise and responsible collection
of the algae which entails a significant
reduction in wasting the resources.
The material is not used for industrial usage,
and once harvested, the calcified algae is
shipped to Hvammstangi, a small local village
where they are pre-processed before
being sent to the processing plant.
